Hamantaschen Baked in Texas Are Not Just for Purim Anymore
Houston, Texas (PRWEB) March 02, 2012
Could Hamantaschen be going mainstream? According to Bobby Jucker, 5th generation baker and co-owner of Three Brothers Bakery, “Based on our daily sales, I believe the Hamantaschen will take on a life similar to the bagel or ruggelach. In 2011 we sold approximately 35,000.” Hamantaschen, a triangle shaped cookie filled with usually poppy, prune or apricot, and sold in most places only during the Jewish holiday of Purim are found daily at Three Brothers Bakery in none other than Houston, Texas.
This delectable delight named Hamantaschen, literally meaning Haman’s Pockets, but also called Haman’s Ears, or French, Napoleon or Patriot Hats has been sold daily for about 15 years at Three Brothers Bakery in Houston, Texas. “The daily production began when a non-Jewish customer, Mrs. Rodriguez, would call every two weeks for two or three dozen hamantaschen, so we’d make extra, and they were selling, so we started making them daily,” explained Jucker. But now Jucker is seeing them emerge as Christmas gifts and even eaten in coffee houses.
Three Brothers Bakery’s triangular shaped pockets are filled with the traditional poppyseed, prune or apricot and also one will find cherry, raspberry, blueberry, lemon, cheese, date, peach, strawberry, or chocolate filled. The top three are poppy, chocolate and apricot fillings. During Purim the Hamantaschen are made either with yeast dough or a secret cookie dough recipe, which is kept securely in a safe. The same cookie dough can also be found at the bottom of all their award winning pies, for it also serves as their crust.
When asked if most of his clientele was Jewish, Jucker replied, “90% + of our customer base is not Jewish, but as we now serve our fourth generation of customer, they have come to enjoy the cookie and hence their children like them, so the demand keeps growing.”
They ship well, so Three Brothers Bakery ranks them in their top 10 best selling baked goods online. Jucker ended by saying, “Thank you Mrs. Rodriguez for creating a bakery trend we hope will be passed on from generation to generation.”
About Three Brothers Bakery
Three Brothers Bakery has a long and fascinating history, with its origins in Chrzanow, Poland dating back to 1825. Later, World War II changed the business and lives of the Juckers forever, when members of the family were imprisoned in Nazi concentration camps.
The original Three Brothers Bakery at 4036 S. Braeswood Blvd and owned by Bobby, Janice and Estelle Jucker, continues to operate a full-service, scratch bakery making savory Eastern European style breads and pastries, cookies, a full line of specialty dessert cakes and pies, as well as custom birthday, special occasion, wedding and grooms’ cakes with many products dairy-free – perfect for those who are lactose intolerant.
The Three Brothers Bakery pecan pie was named “…the best mail order pecan pie America has to offer…” by Country Living magazine and most recently Bobby Jucker competed in Food Network Challenge, seen on Food Network’s Outrageous Food – highlighting their Pumpecapple Piecake, named Pastry Chef of the Year at The Houston Culinary Awards and awarded in January The Knot Best of Weddings 2012 Pick for the 3rd year in a row. Three Brothers Bakery is a certified Woman Owned Business through WBENC and a State of Texas HUB.

JDC Continues Monitoring Safety And Providing Care to Kyrgyzstan Jews as Crisis Escalates
New York, NY (PRWEB) June 15, 2010
As ethnic violence in southern Kyrgyzstan continues to worsen, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), the world’s largest Jewish humanitarian organization, has expanded its services – including providing extra food and medicine – for its Jewish community clients in that region and continues its daily monitoring of their safety. The current unrest has moved to the south of the country, which is home to fewer than 70 Jews in four cities, and is far from the nation’s capital, Bishkek. To date, there have been no reported injuries to the Jewish community.
“Since the beginning of this crisis in April, JDC has been vigilant in its daily contact and care for Jewish community members caught up in the tragic events in Kyrgyzstan,” said JDC CEO Steven Schwager. “As in past crises, JDC, working on the ground with the local Jewish community, will help ensure safety, provide critical services, and reach Jews in danger or need wherever they may be.”
Throughout the crisis, JDC has ensured that its services to the Jewish community, including vital, life-saving programs, continued uninterrupted. Homebound elderly clients of its Meals on Wheels program received deliveries of food – their only source of nourishment – and as public transport was at a standstill for periods of time, homecare workers slept at the homes of bedridden clients whose lives would be jeopardized without these services.
JDC’s long-term support for the Jewish community in Kyrgyzstan, an estimated 1,300 people, includes the local Hesed welfare center in Bishkek, which provides food, medicine and home care to the community. Additionally, JDC supports a Jewish library, a program for family education, as well as other aid and Jewish renewal programs for elderly and children at risk.
Most of Kyrgyzstan’s Jews are concentrated in Bishkek, but Jews can also be found in 10 other locations throughout the country.
About the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC)
Since 1914, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) has given global expression to the principle that all Jews are responsible for one another. Working today in over 70 countries, JDC acts on behalf of North America’s Jewish communities and others to rescue Jews in danger, provide relief to those in distress, revitalize overseas Jewish communities and help Israel overcome the social challenges of its most vulnerable citizens. JDC also provides non-sectarian emergency relief and long-term development assistance worldwide. For more information, please log on to: http://www.JDC.org.

The quintessential Jewish Man or NJB (Nice Jewish Man) went to a local Jewish school or a private day school. After college, he’s off to Dad’s business or his own. An NJB ends up running his own business or as a partner. He either belongs to a gym or owns one. Either way, an NJB has plenty of smarts and is usually off the charts when it comes to being at the top of his game. He has one or two ‘friends’ and many acquaintances. He may visit Jewish and non-Jewish dating sites. Most of the Non Jewish Women he meets are from work, the gym or non Jewish Dating Sites.
The Jewish Man is not into one “type” of girl, having dated Asians, Africans, Russians and blue-eyed blonds from Texas. However, he will only date non-Sloane or non-Preppy, non-Jewish women. They have to be drop-dead gorgeous and have no trace of an accent which puts them squarely in the middle of a zip or a postcode. They may find him through dating other Jewish men who are his friends or through Jewish Dating Sites. The Jewish Man has mastered his English education enough to sound English whilst thinking Yiddish.
The Jewish Man’s idea of a good weekend is a trip to South Beach or the Hampton. Failing that, sliding a Ferrari around a racecourse such as Good wood or a Maserati around Palms is considered an excellent way to relax. He likes his party invitations from his non-Jewish Female friends by phone or in person and never on an embossed card.
He enjoys good food but not more than the attractive company of a non-Jewish Woman. His idea of an entertaining night out is an intimate dinner with somebody who he finds sexy, stylish and intelligent and with whom conversation is effortless. Sex afterwards is a perfect dessert or “pudding” as the English call it. Weekends away would be in a romantic hotel somewhere west of Terminal 5 such Le Manor aux Quatrains or Clive den.
This web-site is dedicated to SchicksaChicks everywhere, of whatever age, race or religion (other than Jewish, of course). SC ‘s are just great looking Chicks who are fun to be with and just happen, for better or worse, depending on how you look at it, not to have the capital ‘J’ as in ‘J Date’ on their resume. This site is dedicated to Schicksas Chicks, Jewish Man, Non Jewish Women and Schicksa chicks everywhere. Without either, neither would exist. Wonderful Jewish Dating Sites are here to help you out !! Launch of JewishNet, the Jewish Social Platform, Alpha Version
Jerusalem, Israel (PRWEB) May 03, 2011
JewishNet is a symbiosis of online toolbox and offline activity. Visually the platform represents an Internet portal with all the features of a social network. It is integrated with the popular Web 2.0 and IM services, as well as niche sub-projects: “job”, “dating”, “traveling together”, “recommendations”, etc.
The platform covers three basic areas: socialization, education and public diplomacy. A virtual Media Center and journalists, PR experts, political analysts, and sociologists community has been created within JewishNet to explain the objective situation in the Middle East in printed and electronic media. The project also entails the creation of an educational platform featuring the leading opinions – from experts in the area of informal education to Jewish celebrities, public figures and politicians giving answers to the users’ questions.
“A strong Jewish Identity guaranteed the survival of Jews for thousands of years, while its destruction may lead to the end of the Jewish people,” says Natan Sharansky, the Chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel. “Today, when we fight for protecting our Jewish Identity is among one of the most important tasks of the Jews in Diaspora, the opening of an Internet project such as this is very important and needed. The Internet has become the most effective way of communication and receiving information among people. If JewishNet becomes the connecting link among Jews from different countries and the source of necessary information about the Jewish world, history, traditions, etc., then I am sure of the success of this project.”
“We have been waiting for something like JewishNet for a long time,” says Dr Zeev Khanin, the Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption of Israel. “It is rather hard to find any kind of objective information about Israel. Despite the fact that the iron curtain doesn’t exist any more, there is still an enormous amount of stereotypes on the surface. It would be wrong to expect Israel to counter all this through official institutions: civil society is an address to solve this kind of problem through all sorts of information initiatives. In Israel we are looking forward to this kind of resource becoming available. I hope it is to become a good beginning in a long line of the similar initiatives.”
The project representatives emphasize that, being Jewish-oriented, JewishNet is always open to the non-Jewish general public. The platform is also integrated with the leading social networks: Facebook, Twitter, Vkontakte, not to mention other popular Web 2.0 resources.
“Our sphere of activity is not limited to the World Wide Web,” Roman (Rafael) Gold, the JewishNet Founder and CEO, highlights. “From the outset we have focused not only upon the obvious “socialization” aspect, but also on such complex factors as innovative education and media activity. I am positive that JewishNet will manage the challenges it faces with dignity, in a way that is only within the powers of a public initiative.”
JewishNet counts amongst its partners Jewish organizations of international standing: the Jewish Agency for Israel, the Betar movement, the Ezra organization, as well as local Jewish communities, youth movements and scientific groups. Special attention is aso given to cooperation with business partners in the areas of culture, education and tourism. At the same time, the project is fully independent, which makes it possible to respect all users’ interests.

JRetroMatch, SawYouAtSinai and j-junction Partner to Focus on Aussie Jewish Dating Scene
New York, NY (Vocus) March 27, 2010
JRetroMatch.com, SawYouAtSinai.com and j-junction.com.au are excited to unveil their Jewish Matchmaking partnership. Marc Goldmann, founder of JRetroMatch.com, a global Jewish Matchmaking organization, stated, “We are accomplishing for Jewish singles in USA and around the world, what j-junction has been successfully doing in Australia. We are thrilled to have found a dedicated and strong partner to assist us in expanding our ability to help Jewish Singles all over the world find their spouse.” Rabbi Mendal Kastel, who spearheaded the partnership, explains its benefits to the single-and-searching Aussie. “JRetroMatch and SawYouAtSinai are a tremendous resource to Jewish singles, both affiliated and non-affiliated. They have advanced matchmaking software, a database of over 30,000 singles and a track record of a thousand successful shidduchim (matches), so we are honored to have this exclusive partnership with them in Australia.”
JRetroMatch model was created to help marriage-minded Jewish singles find their soul mates. Unlike other online Jewish dating services, JRetroMatch combines the human element of hands-on matchmaking with the convenience, ease and real-time of the Internet. The site was designed so technology hones in on corresponding dating specifications and experienced matchmakers, review the more subtle personality and compatibility aspects of the match before members’ profiles are shown to each other.
”Dating can be hard for anyone,” explained Michelle Lewis, the head matchmaker and general manager of the j-junction site. “Here in Australia, Jewish singles, if they can’t travel to the US or Europe to date, have an especially hard time, because the dating pool simply isn’t that big.” j-junction was created to help these singles meet each other in a more discreet and confidential manner than online dating.
Lewis encourages the singles she works with to look at the matchmaking process as a convenient energy and time saver in what can be an exhausting dating process. ”Having a matchmaker, as old-fashioned as that sounds,” Lewis remarks, ”means that sticky questions like, where do you want to live, or, are you ok if I have kids from a previous marriage, are addressed before you even go on that first date. You don’t have to go through that experience of meeting someone fascinating at a party, only to find out they’re leaving to London the next day.”
The revamped and updated j-junction Aussie Jewish Dating site launched on March 25, 2010 and now has all of the key matchmaking features and functionality of the JRetroMatch and SawYouAtSinai platform. In other words, if you live in Australia and have lots of single friends, you better start keeping your weekends free — you’re going to have a lot of weddings to attend.
ABOUT JRETROMATCH:
JRetroMatch.com was established in March of 2006. The site, which blends ‘retro’ matchmaking with online technology to provide a personalized service to our members, was launched to service Conservative, Reform, Traditional and unaffiliated Jewish singles across the US. With one-on-one consultations, our dedicated matchmakers reduce the frustration and time spent browsing through 1,000’s of profiles. They screen and send quality matches based on each member’s unique personality & needs.
Real estate brokers help you find houses, recruiters help you find new jobs, JRetro matchmakers help find you appropriate matches and provide an edge. When you can have a personal assistant for your love life — why go it alone? Over 900 singles have found their spouse through the JRetro system and over 25,000 singles are already using this amazing service.
